What is an Email Alias?
An alias is an additional email address that forwards to an existing mailbox. For example, you could have hello@yourdomain.com and info@yourdomain.com both deliver to a single inbox, without creating two separate accounts.
- Aliases do not have their own storage quota.
- Replies are sent from the main mailbox address, not the alias.
- You can create as many aliases as you need.
Creating an Alias
- Log in to the OnePoundEmail control panel.
- In the left sidebar, click Email Forwarders.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- Enter the alias address in the From field (e.g.
hello@yourdomain.com). - Enter the destination mailbox in the To field (e.g.
main@yourdomain.com). - Click Save to create the alias.
The destination address must be an existing email account on your OnePoundEmail account. You can also forward to an external address.
What is a Catch-All Address?
A catch-all address receives any email sent to your domain that does not match an existing account or forwarder. For example, if someone sends an email to typo@yourdomain.com and that address does not exist, the catch-all receives it instead of bouncing.
Catch-all addresses can attract a lot of spam, as spammers often send to random addresses at known domains. Use with caution and make sure your spam filters are configured.
Setting Up a Catch-All
- Log in to the OnePoundEmail control panel.
- In the left sidebar, click Email Forwarders.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- In the From field, enter
*@yourdomain.com(replace with your actual domain). - Enter the destination address in the To field.
- Click Save.
Your catch-all is now active. Any email sent to an address on your domain that does not match an existing account will be delivered to your chosen destination.
