Setting Up Android Mail

This guide covers adding your OnePoundEmail account to an Android device using the Gmail app or a dedicated email client such as Aqua Mail or FairEmail.

Connection Settings

Have your server hostname ready - it is in your welcome email.

Incoming mail (IMAP)
  Server: your-server-hostname
  Port: 993
  Security: SSL/TLS

Outgoing mail (SMTP)
  Server: your-server-hostname
  Port: 587
  Security: STARTTLS

Username: your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.com)
Password: your email account password

Using the Gmail App

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap the menu icon (top left).
  2. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  3. Tap Add account, then Other.
  4. Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup.
  5. Select IMAP as the account type.
  6. Enter your password, then configure the incoming server with the hostname and port 993 over SSL/TLS.
  7. Configure the outgoing SMTP server with the hostname and port 587 over STARTTLS.
  8. Tap Next and complete the setup.

Using a Dedicated Email App

Apps like Aqua Mail, FairEmail, or K-9 Mail give more control over settings and are recommended for advanced users. The setup process is similar:

  • Choose Manual / IMAP setup when prompted.
  • Enter the same server hostname, ports, and credentials as shown above.
  • Set incoming security to SSL/TLS and outgoing to STARTTLS.
The exact steps vary by app and Android version. If auto-detection fails, look for a Manual setup option and enter the IMAP and SMTP settings directly.

Troubleshooting

  • If the connection fails, verify the server hostname from your welcome email.
  • Always use your full email address as the username.
  • Try port 465 with SSL/TLS for SMTP if port 587 is blocked.
  • Test your credentials by logging in to webmail at webmail.mxroute.com.
