Docs DirectAdmin Changing Email Password

Changing Your Email Password

You can change the password for any email account on your domain from DirectAdmin. After changing it, you will need to update the password in any email clients or devices that use that account.

Changing the Password in DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin control panel.
  2. Go to E-Mail Manager > E-Mail Accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to update and click the pencil / edit icon.
  4. Enter a new password in the Password field, or click the generate button to create a strong one.
  5. Click Save to apply the change.
The password change takes effect immediately. You do not need to restart anything on the server.

Updating Your Email Clients

After changing your password, any connected devices or apps will stop working until the new password is entered. Update the password in:

  • Outlook - go to File > Account Settings, select the account, and click Change.
  • Apple Mail - you will be prompted automatically when the old password fails.
  • Thunderbird - go to Tools > Password Manager to remove the saved password.
  • iPhone or iPad - go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, tap the account, and update the password.
  • Android - open your email app, go to account settings, and update the password.

Choosing a Strong Password

  • Use at least 12 characters, mixing letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Avoid using your name, domain, or common words.
  • Use a password manager to generate and store strong passwords securely.
  • Do not reuse passwords across different services.
If you believe your account has been compromised, change the password immediately and review any forwarding rules or filters that may have been added.
